Now it's in the middle of September. Shin-mai 新米, or new rice comes on the market. Autumn is the best season of enjoying it in Japan. The taste is so fresh and sweet that it is quite different from in other season.
The rice is a key factor to think about Japanese culture, for it has been main food source in Japan for more than 2000 years and effected on our lives. When we say "Gohan ごはん", it has two meanings: rice and dishes. It shows that rice has been a main role in our dishes. Rice effects on forming Japanese attitude such as good cooperation and keeping order in society, which all need for rice cultivation.
