2009.09.29 chinese restaurant in downtown Tokyo

Today I went to the small chinese buffet, named "Kameido Gyoza 亀戸餃子" at the downtown Ryogoku両国 in Tokyo東京. It' a chinese style but the taste is quite different from that in China. If my chinise friends come here, they may say this is Japanese-chinese-food!
All the menu are reasonable and the tastes are so nice that the restaurant attracts visitors all the time.
It takes 5~6 minutes walk from the kokugikan 国技館 or National sports arena in Ryogoku両国.
How about visiting the restaurant after watching SUMO 相撲?

Here is the scenery from the hotel, Park Hyatt Tokyo パークハイアット東京 at Shinjuku 新宿. The hotel has a special kind of urban atmosphere. At night, the town lights loolked like the sea of lights from the window. l felt as if I were at an island in the urban air of Tokyo.

2009.09.25 Kenroku-en garden

Kenrokuen兼六園 is located in the central city, Kanazawa金沢 of Ishikawa石川 prefecture. It is one of the three most famous landscape gardens in Japan. Originally it was started as a private garden of the feudal loads, Maeda families in the 17th century.

My grandmother was born near the garden. She says, “When I was a child, I always played here after school. It was so fan. I often left my lunchbox in the garden.” Thinking about her, I visited the garden.

There're six famous scenery here, that's why the garden is called "Kenrokuen 兼六園",meaning that there're six different contrasting views in one garden: 宏大 but 幽邃, 人力 but 蒼古, 水泉 but 眺望. Here, I don't translate them, but put some picture for the image. Let's imagine the meaning of them!
①Kodai 宏大
②but Yusui 幽邃.
③Jin-riki 人力
④but Sou-ko 蒼古.
⑥but 眺望.
I enjoyed Japanese traditonal tea at quet atmosphere with beautiful scenery of the garden, imagining my grandmother's childhood.

2009.09.23 Asian restaurant near Roppongi

Today I attended the seminar at Roppongi hills 六本木ヒルズ in Tokyo東京. "Roppongi hills" is the name of the commercial complex in Roppongi六本木. There're luxury shops, hotels, theatre, and companies.
After the seminar, I went to the Vietnamese restaurant, CYCRO. It's NOT AT Roppongi hills but NEAR the hills, therefore it's not so crowded, and relatively more reasonable than luxury restaurants in the hills.
There're lots of restaurants in Tokyo, not only Japanese traditional style but various restaurants. Many of them are clean and nice!
Shop: Vietnamese restaurant CYCRO
Address: 6-6-9, Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo

2009.09.21 Shin-mai, or newly harvested rice

Now it's in the middle of September. Shin-mai 新米, or new rice comes on the market. Autumn is the best season of enjoying it in Japan. The taste is so fresh and sweet that it is quite different from in other season.
The rice is a key factor to think about Japanese culture, for it has been main food source in Japan for more than 2000 years and effected on our lives. When we say "Gohan ごはん", it has two meanings: rice and dishes. It shows that rice has been a main role in our dishes. Rice effects on forming Japanese attitude such as good cooperation and keeping order in society, which all need for rice cultivation.
Let's try Shin-mai and feel the Japanese culture! Please don't forget the Japanese custom to say Itadakimasu いただきます before eating. It means not only "Let's start the meal."but "I'm thankful toward the meal." If you're interested in how to cook rice in Japanese style, click here.
