This is the Todai-ji 東大寺 temple in Nara奈良 prefecture. The history began in the 8th century. This gate is the national treasure, Nandaimon 南大門, rebuilt early in the 13th century. In this gate, there're two famous gardians. I think they're the best I've ever seen, though there're various kinds of gardians in Japanese temples. There is the Buddha statue in this building. It is the biggest in Japan. The Buddha statue constructed for world peace by the Emperor Syo-mu in the middle of the 8th century. It took almost 3 years for the construction. Buddha is a Sanskrit word which means "the one who has enlightened.″ This is also the national treasure building, Nigatsudo 二月堂, constructed more than 300years ago.
